Variable Frequency Drive, or VFD, Well Pump Systems are an extremely popular well pump system upgrades. Conventional well pump systems typically operate on a 20 psi differential pressure range, but VFD systems speed up or slow down according to the amount of water used. VFD systems offer better, more constant water pressure, even when water is being used at multiple places simultaneously.
Variable Frequency Drive systems have other benefits besides constant pressure. VFD systems use a built-in soft start/ stop feature that eliminates wear and tear on the unit and wire caused with hard starts. Variable frequency drives also usually have built in surge protection, against high/ low voltage surges as well as lightning surges, in an effort to prevent electrical burn outs. The pump’s speed is controlled to provide optimum performance without overloading the motor, making for a longer lasting system.
